A Community Advisory Group
(CAG) can help the Enviromental Protection Agency (EPA) and the
public make better decisions on how to clean up a site. It
offers EPA a unique opportunity to hear and seriously
consider community preferences for site cleanup and remediation.
The existence of a CAG does not eliminate the need for the Agency
to keep the community informed about plans and decisions through
out the Superfund process.
Wauconda
CAG Mission Statement:
The
Wauconda CAG is a citizen’s advisory group formed in response to
the failed Wauconda Sand and Gravel Landfill (NPL) Superfund Site.
Our mission is
to actively participate in the processes of determining the full extent
of this landfill’s contamination and to expedite a safe, permanent
water supply for all residents affected and/or potentially affected,
and to ascertain which remedial methods are needed and will be used
to effectively prevent this landfill from continued failure. Our purpose
is to protect human health and to be an advocate for environmental
responsibility. We will work with all parties involved, we will gather
data and technical assistance, and we will involve and inform the
public of all aspects of this situation. Our goal is to implement
timely and permanently effective solutions to these many hazards threatening
our health and environment, today and far into the future.
